Chris Nielsen

Christopher Eric Nielsen, 43, of Lake McConaughy, passed away on Friday, March 6, 2009 at his home. Chris was born May 20, 1965, in North Platte, the son of Martin and Karen Clark Nielsen. Chris grew up in North Platte and graduated from the North Platte High School before attending the University of Nebraska at Lincoln and Bellevue University. He married Karen Roxby in 1992. Interested in aviation, Chris began working for United Airlines in Omaha. He was attending management school in Chicago in 2001 when he met his future wife Lisa. Chris later moved to Denver, while working for United Airlines and in April of 2007 moved to Ogallala. Chris and Lisa married in July of 2007. Chris had been a volunteer in the Coast Guard auxiliary and enjoyed living at the lake. He loved to hunt and fish and taught Lisa to enjoy the sports as well. He had been a member of the Ogallala Masonic Lodge No. 159. Survivors include his wife, Lisa Nielsen of Lake McConaughy; son, Andrew C. Nielsen of Newport Beach, Calif.; stepson, Joel A. Tinsley of South Elgin, Ill.; father, Martin C. and wife Diana Nielsen of Omaha; mother, Kay and husband Doug Downs of Hershey; twin brother, Craig E. Nielsen of Parker, Colo.; sister, Angela K. and husband Tim Kaliban, son Ryan and step-daughter Jessica of Tampa, Fla.; step brothers, Dale and wife Cathe Downs of Abilene, Texas, Ryan and wife Valerie Downs of Springfield; step-grandmother, Laura Downs of North Platte; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Martin C. and Alice E. Nielsen, Delbert V. and Inez L. Clark; step-grandfather, Raymond Downs; and infant brothers, Roger Clark Nielsen and Gregory Allen Nielsen.
